About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Accountant who wants to own client relationships and be the reason nothing slips through the cracks.
You’ll be the day-to-day lead for a group of business clients. You’ll make sure their books, tax returns, and filings are accurate and on time, and that every owner understands the financial health of their business. You’ll also work with an Accounting Manager on quarterly tax projections and annual tax planning, so advisory work is part of the job from day one.
What you’ll do
- Lead the ongoing relationship for a portfolio of business clients and share results every period in the way each client prefers
- Prepare and review 1040, 1120, 1120-S, and 1065 returns
- Review monthly and quarterly financial statements prepared by Staff Accountants and Bookkeepers
- Prepare quarterly tax projections and confirm clients’ estimated payments are made
- Own compliance across your clients, including sales and use tax, personal property returns, 1099s, and payroll filings, in every state where they have nexus
- Onboard new clients, from the first meeting through the first set of books and a first-year roadmap
- Give feedback on staff work that helps them grow
- Work with Accounting Managers on tax planning and spot advisory opportunities for your clients
What we’re looking for
- 3+ years of public accounting experience
- Strong preparation and review experience in business and individual tax
- Experience reviewing financial statements for small businesses
- A reviewer’s eye for detail and the confidence to talk numbers with business owners
- Enjoyment in helping newer accountants sharpen their skills
- Experience with UltraTax, SurePrep, or similar software a plus
- EA or CPA a plus, or on your way to one (we support and reimburse continuing education and certifications)
Room to grow
Our job track runs from Senior Accountant I and II toward Accounting Manager, with training at every level.
Location and travel
This role is hybrid in Frederick, MD. We prefer hybrid or local candidates, but we’ll consider fully remote for the right person.
If you’re fully remote, travel is paid for initial training in Frederick and for our spring and fall team gatherings.
